[00:00:00] Speaker A: Stay aware, stay proactive, and remember, Buttons up and fight back. You're listening to the Buttons Up Impact, a podcast where awareness becomes action, where conversations matter, and where together, we can create real change. Thank you for being here and taking [00:00:19] Speaker B: a few minutes out of your day [00:00:21] Speaker A: to listen, learn, and be part of something bigger. This podcast has been on my heart for a long time. It's about cancer awareness, yes, but it's also also about community, resilience, and the powerful impact that one conversation can have on someone's life. Because when we talk openly about health and life, when we share knowledge, when we encourage each other to pay attention to our bodies, we create opportunities to save lives. [00:00:51] Speaker B: And before we go any further, I [00:00:54] Speaker A: want to share the real story behind Buttons Up. Because understanding where it came from helps you understand the purpose behind everything we're doing here. The truth is, Buttons up was born out of heartbreak. After the loss of our daughter to ovarian cancer, our entire world changed. Losing a child is something no parent should ever have to face. It leaves a space that can never truly be filled. [00:01:22] Speaker B: But in the middle of that grief, [00:01:24] Speaker A: something unexpected began to happen. Our daughter's children, our grandchildren, were also trying to process that loss. Like all of us, they were searching for something to hold on to, something that could help them cope with the pain of losing their mom. One day, we started creating simple shirts and apparel together as a way to keep our minds busy and our hearts focused on something positive. We had a lot of sewing supplies around the house, including a big collection of buttons. So the kids began sewing real buttons onto the shirts, making them unique, just like their mom. It became a small activity that helped us all breathe again during a very difficult time. And somewhere in that moment of creativity and healing, the kids came up with a name for what we were making. They looked at the shirts, the buttons, the designs, and Buttons up was born. What started as a simple way for a family to cope with loss slowly turned into something much bigger. Those shirts and apparel became symbols. Symbols of remembrance, resilience, and awareness. And that's how Buttons up was born and why we incorporate buttons into our apparel collection. [00:02:43] Speaker B: From the very beginning, the mission has been turn pain into purpose. Turn loss into awareness. Turn one family story into something that could help other families avoid the same heartbreak. That's why cancer awareness sits at the center of everything we do. Because the reality is, cancer has touched nearly every family in some way. A parent, a child, a friend, a neighbor, a coworker. And one of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against Cancer is awareness and early detection. That's why on this podcast, you'll hear me talk about ovarian cancer. Often, it's one of the cancers that can be especially difficult to detect early because the symptoms can seem small or easy to ignore. Things like bloating, abdominal discomfort, feeling full quickly, or subtle changes in your body can be dismissed as everyday issues. But awareness changes everything. When people know what to look for, when they trust their instincts, when they speak with their doctors, early lives can be saved. And while ovarian cancer is a major focus for us because of our personal story, this podcast is about all cancers. It's about educating people, sharing information, and encouraging listeners to stay proactive with their health. Because the truth is, can't fight what you don't know. Another big part of the Buttons up mission is community. Cancer can feel incredibly isolating. Doctor visits, treatments, uncertainty. It can make people feel like they're going through something alone. But when people connect, when they share their stories, when they support each other, something powerful happens. That's what this podcast is meant to be. A place where conversations happen openly, where people feel supported, and where awareness spreads. And the apparel line you see connected to Buttons up is a big part of that awareness. [00:04:54] Speaker A: Those shirts that started as something we [00:04:56] Speaker B: made together as a family became a symbol of something larger. When someone wears Buttons up apparel, it often starts a conversation. Someone might ask what the name means. They might ask about the mission. And in that moment, awareness spreads. That's how movements grow, one conversation at a time. Today, Buttons up represents more than apparel. It represents a mission of awareness. Here, Healing, community, and impact. It honors the memory of a daughter while helping other families learn, stay informed, and advocate for their health. And that brings us to this podcast, the Buttons Up Impact. This show exists to educate, inspire, and remind people how important it is to listen to their bodies, talk with their doctors, and support those around them who may be facing a cancer journey. We'll talk about prevention, warning signs, personal stories, and ways communities can come together to make a difference. Because awareness is powerful. Knowledge is powerful. And when people come together around a mission, real change can happen. If this episode resonated with you, share it with someone you care about. Send it to a friend or a family member. Because awareness only spreads as far as we're willing to carry it. And if you'd like to learn more about the Buttons up mission, explore the apparel or see how you can support the movement, visit ButtonsUP IO.
